Breathing support
Check delivered breaths after every change in support.
Before ventilation
Assess the airway and chest, select an appropriate airway intervention and confirm its effect. When changing from a non-rebreather mask to bag mask ventilation, remove the mask so the BVM can be applied.
Addon Options > ACM Extended: Trauma > Procedures > Allow Needle Decompression controls new needle placements. Use the airway and chest reference for the procedure and its consequences.
Match support to respiratory drive
Mandatory ventilator modes can provide timed breaths. CPAP relies on spontaneous breathing and does not provide the same support for an apneic patient. Assess actual respiratory rate, delivered volume, oxygenation and CO2 after changing a mode.
The ventilator guide explains the controls. The medication cards explain how sedation and paralysis affect spontaneous breathing.
Use the available cues
Enable Addon Options > ACM Extended: Accessibility > Options > BVM ventilation visual cue to see a cue when the BVM ventilation sound plays. A cue confirms ventilation activity; reassess the patient to establish effectiveness.
An attached ventilator does not block CPR in the current build. Use the cardiac rhythm guide if the patient becomes pulseless.
